How expensive is having individual health care insurance?

September 7, 2010 - 5:23 pm 3 Comments

How expensive can it be? Do you have to pay it monthly or annually? How much do you have to pay? Like 30 dollars a month?

The cost depends upon your age, height and weight, gender, if you smoke, and the deductible and benefits of the policy. I’ve seen policies for people in their 20′s run $50 or $60 per month and people in their 60′s run over $1000 per month. Most policies are paid monthly.

You should visit a local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find the best policy for your situation and they don’t charge you anything for the service.

How to Compare Health Insurance Providers?

September 7, 2010 - 5:01 pm 3 Comments

You compare the PROVIDERS by going to your state website, and looking at complaints; and by comparing their financial strength ratings.

You compare COVERAGES, by laying them all out on a desk and looking at them. No simple task. Keep in mind, each provider is going to have MULTIPLE coverage plans.

How can I get affordable health insurance?

September 7, 2010 - 5:01 pm 4 Comments

I’m 19, in good health, not pregnant nor do I already have a child. I was told by the state that I have to either be under 18 or have a child to get Medicare. My job does not offer insurance. What can I do? I’m on a very low income, and can’t afford very much, but I am willing to pay something.

In my area, since you are healthy you would be able to get an individual policy for $50 to $220 per month depending upon deductible and other benefits. If you want a plan with limited doctor visits the premium will be less. If you want maternity coverage figure on around $300 more per month.

You should visit your local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find the right policy for your situation. They don’t charge for the service.

What’s wrong with affordable health insurance without a middle man?

We have affordable car insurance and the gov’t doesn’t get involved in that, do they?

Am I the only one who thinks a few of these industries (insurance, pharmaceutical) should be regulated?

Your question is much too logical to be taken seriously here.

There are numerous ways to reform healthcare. The German model uses private, for profit health insurers who are subject to government regulations that prohibit them from denying coverage bases on pre-existing conditions. So their system is more of a hybrid than other European single payer systems, ranging from this to the British system of socialized medicine where the doctors work for the government to the French system of private doctors but with a single payer system.
The big difference, or course, is that the United States has allowed the medical profession to become a for profit system. The free market zealots think this is just fine but the fact is that by allowing the profit motive into this basic human need they are ruining our economy.
Soon the portion of our incomes that the health care system demands of us will exceed our ability to pay and we will essentially be working in exchange for healthcare. Economic slavery anyone?

But consider this. If we should end up with a single payer system it will spell the end of our economy unless Obama can muster the courage and ammunition to stop the insane prices that the healthcare profession charges us for their services. A single payer system without removing these criminally high prices will create a Bubble that will dwaft even the housing bubble. Close your eyes and try to imagine just how raped and robbed we will be when every person in the country can get medical care that is subsidized by the government with the greedy sons of dogs in the healthcare business charging $235.00 for an aspirin.
And to the free maketers who claim that a single payer system with price controls won’t work, I remind them of Vlad Lenin. Vlad pulled a 38 caliber pistol from his pocket and put it to the head of a train conductor refusing to run the train. Vlad cocked the pistol and Mr. Conductor yelled, "All Aboard!" The trains ran on time and so will the appendix operations after a couple of well placed bullets.

How can auto insurance companies check your annual mileage?

September 7, 2010 - 12:02 am 5 Comments

With my insurance company, they offer classes like "7500 and under miles per year", "over 7500 miles per year" etc.

I hate lying to insurance companies, but I’ve seen articles that a certain percentage of the population does. Most common thing lied about seems to be your driving record.

But what about checking to see if you really do drive with x miles per year? Do they send agents out to check your car?

Thanks!

It depends on the type of business as far as the cost would go, but, yes, liability insurance is required for businesses.
