Why are people against the Obamas public health care plan?

August 30, 2010 - 8:19 pm 11 Comments

As someone who’s had cancer twice right after college, and couldn’t get any insurance to cover me – including the insurance that I had previously under my parents, I like that there’s a health plan for people like me when you can’t afford high priced insurance or when they reject your claim. Like my parents insurance rejected me after I got hit with cancer the first time & left me in the lurch. :( But I want to know why others are against it because obviously my history makes me biased.

If you read the bill, you would likely be against it as well.

First and foremost, it is a clear violation of the US Constitution. The federal government is given limited powers, and the power to require people to purchase a private product (insurance) is not one of them. Every requirement of law has a remedy. If you don’t want to pay for auto insurance, you don’t have to drive. If you don’t want to pay property taxes, you don’t have to buy property. In this case, if you don’t want to pay for health insurance… what? you can move out of the country or die?

Second, it isn’t a public health care plan. A public health care plan would be one where people are automatically insured by virtue of the tax dollars we all pay. Obama’s plan is virtually the same system we have now, only with more people in the mix.

Third, it is a major windfall for the insurance companies. As of right now, insurance companies are reaping huge profits without really providing any services. The bill rewards insurance companies for ripping us off for so long. No thanks to that.

Lastly, it won’t help in the long run. Right now, medical costs are very high with no end in sight. We let insurance companies tell us what they will cover, and in turn, they drive costs higher. With more people buying insurance, they still control what they pay for mostly, and costs will just keep rising.

What we need is a real comprehensive overhaul of the medical industry while eliminating private for-profit medical insurance companies. To do so would bring the US more in line with the rest of the civilized world.

August 3, 2009Not only will Obama ration your health care — especially if you are a senior citizen — and have the government decide what treatment and benefits you get, the proposed plan will also build and expand the governments surveillance and control grid.

Section 163 of the bill now in Congress allows the government real-time access to a persons bank records, including direct access to bank accounts for electronic fund transfers.

Section 163 of the bill now in Congress allows the government real-time access to a persons bank records, including direct access to bank accounts for electronic fund transfers. Even-though the bill mentions privacy aspects, the fact remains that if approved, Obamas health care plan will allow government access at any time to your personal bank records, KFYI News reports.

Its pretty Orwellian, it certainly gets the government pretty darn deeply involved in private matters in our lives, Arizona Congressman John Shadegg told the news radio station.

Orwellian it is, but hardly surprising or unprecedented.

After September 11, 2001, the government began tapping into a vast global database of confidential financial transactions. The government implemented a surveillance program and used a broad interpretation of the Treasury Departments administrative powers to bypass traditional banking privacy protections. It is run by the CIA and managed by the Treasury Department.
