Ron Paul Introducing the Private Option Health Care Act

Introducing the Private Option Health Care Act

by Ron Paul

Most everyone agrees that health care in the United stated has major problems, the biggest problems relating to skyrocketing costs. No one doubts the system is in need of reform. However, too many in Washington see tighter government controls as the solution. In fact, the problems are rooted in past government controls that created more problems than they solved.

Ironically, laws and policies in the 1970s promoting health maintenance organizations, resulted from desperate attempts to control spiraling costs. However, instead of promoting an efficient health care system, HMOs took far too much control away from patients and physicians and gave it to the insurers. This excessive reliance on third-party payers instead removed incentives for insured patients to economize on health care costs, and allowed the problem to snowball. Furthermore, the third-party payer system created a two-tier health care system where people whose employers could afford to offer Cadillac plans have access to top quality health care, while others face financial obstacles in obtaining quality health care.

For these and other reasons I introduced the Private Option Health Care Act last week. This bill places individuals back in control of health care by replacing the recently passed “tax, spend, and regulate” health care law with reforms designed to restore a free-market health care system.

First, the bill would provide all Americans with a tax credit for 100% of health care expenses. This tax is fully refundable against both income and payroll taxes. It would also allow individuals to roll over unused amounts in cafeteria plans and flexible savings accounts. Next, it would provide a tax credit for premiums for high deductible insurance policies connected with a health savings account and allow seniors to use funds in HSAs to pay for “Medigap” policies. In addition, it would repeal the 7.5% threshold for the deduction of medical expenses and thus make all medical expenses tax-deductible.

The Private Option Health Care Act allows Congress to correct the mistake it made last month by replacing the new health care law with health care measures that give control to individuals instead of the federal government and corporations. Our health is too vital to allow for the typical government interference and fixes.

Lessons in Humanity: Habeas Corpus

“The Drumhead” is the 95th episode of the science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation and the 21st episode of the show’s fourth season. Guest star Jean Simmons portrays Rear Admiral Norah Satie, a special investigator who visits the Federation Starship U.S.S. Enterprise.

Synopsis
A Klingon exchange officer on board the Enterprise, J’Dan, is suspected of being involved in a security breach and in the possible sabotage of the warp core reactor. With no clear resolution as to the cause of the explosion, Starfleet Command dispatches retired Admiral Norah Satie to head up the investigation. She is accompanied by two assistants, one of whom is a Betazoid. Worf discovers that a Hypospray used to treat J’Dan’s Balthasar Syndrome is being used to convert digital information into amino acid sequences. J’Dan is interrogated, where it is revealed that he is indeed a Romulan collaborator, yet he remains adamant that he was not involved in the dilithium chamber explosion. Satie and Picard agree that J’Dan could not have acted alone, and that a larger conspiracy is present. They establish an agreement of mutual cooperation.
Following the questioning of medical technician Simon Tarses, who is noted as being one-quarter Vulcan, Satie’s Betazoid assistant senses the young technician is hiding something. Afterward, Picard refuses to place restrictions on Tarses’ movements based on Betazoid intuition alone. An analysis of the dilithium chamber finds that the explosion was caused by metal fatigue, due to a hatch casing with an undetectable defect being installed at McKinley Station.
A subsequent (and now open) hearing reveals that Tarses, contrary to his Starfleet application, is actually one-quarter Romulan. Afterward Picard takes Worf aside and likens the investigation to a drumhead trial — summary justice dispensed on the battlefield. He speaks with Tarses in private to gauge his level of involvement in any conspiracy, and is satisfied that covering up his Romulan ancestry was his only misdeed. Picard meets with Satie to protest her unethical methods and call for an end to the hearings. She advises the captain that she reports directly to Starfleet Command on the proceedings and does not require his approval, and that the hearings will continue. On the bridge, Picard receives a summons to report for questioning.
Admiral Thomas Henry, who worked with Satie in the past, arrives to observe the hearings. Picard makes an opening statement about the xenophobic and paranoid nature of the investigation. Satie picks apart Picard’s career aboard the Enterprise, citing numerous infractions of the Prime Directive, his capture and assimilation by the Borg, and finally directly questions his loyalty to Starfleet. Worf nearly loses his temper with the investigators over accusations regarding his heritage. While making his final arguments Picard quotes Satie’s father, a prominent Starfleet judicator, about the path of limiting freedom. Satie furiously berates Picard for invoking her father’s name in his own defense, stating that she has “brought down bigger men than you Picard!”; Admiral Henry leaves the room in the middle of the tirade. The prosecution calls a recess, leaving a disgraced Satie sitting alone in the courtroom.
Worf later finds Picard in the observation lounge to inform the captain of Admiral Henry ending the hearings, and of Satie’s departure from the Enterprise. Picard remarks that history can still threaten to repeat itself. Worf laments that he was quite eager to assist Satie in her witch-hunt at first. Picard speaks of the ever-present, but subtle, danger of those who would spread fear and suspicion in the name of righteousness and (paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson) of the need for vigilance against that kind of threat.

Speaker Pelosi and President Obama admit JAIL is “fair” for not buying insurance – 11-9-09

August 29, 2010 - 3:01 am 25 Comments

2 Speaker Pelosi and President Obama admit JAIL is fair for not buying insurance 11 9 09During a press conference at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Nancy Pelosi skirted a surprise question, twice. The questions pertained to 5-year jail terms and $250,000 fines for those refusing to buy health insurance under her plan. However, she did say her plan was “fair”.

Choice??? According to HR 3962, buy insurance or go to jail. Such “choice” is standard under dictatorships, is this tyranny the “change” that voters hoped for? Of course not.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, was in Seattle on Monday, November 9, 2009 where she joined Democratic Reps. Jay Inslee, Jim McDermott and Norman Dicks in a tour of Swedish Medical Center. Pelosi’s visit came less than 48 hours after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the massive and short-sighted “Affordable Health Care for America Act” bill by a very narrow margin, 220-215. Pelosi needed at least 218 votes for passage.

The closed door meetings and their partisan Democrat scheme worked despite the obvious will of the People as a Rasmussen poll found that 57% Americans opposed while only 41% approved government run health care. By all accounts, this bill should have died. However, the Stupak amendment revived it at the promise of removing funding for abortions, which we all know can be reversed later on. The Stupak amendment to HR 3962 was proposed and approved in the House of Representatives on November 7, 2009. Here are more details about the amendment:

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/66969-se…

Pelosi was recently asked another question that she could not answer. She was asked where in the Constitution does it give government the right to run health care. Her snarky answer was simply; are you serious, are you serious? Yes, we patriots are serious; just ask us what we think of more government intrusion in our lives, this being an egregious one that will snatch 1/6th of the US economy from the private sector and in total making government in charge of about half of the entire economy. The more this reckless government strays away from the guidelines set by our Founding Fathers, the less freedom we are left with.

Liberty will die and so will patients under this sort of health care reform. Like in Canada and much of socialist Europe, patients needlessly die waiting weeks or months for life saving surgeries. And in our case, Washington bureaucrats will make decisions for you and your doctor based on cost effective procedures. That is where rationing and cost savings will offset the massive fraud, waste and abuse that government is infamous for. It is a good thing that Congress, with their 240 millionaires, will be spared the rationed care they impose of the American public.

This legislation must be stopped at all expense, as the Senate will soon vote on it. Our Liberty and quality of health care depends on our success in stopping this reckless government and their radical and destructive agenda. Their narrow-minded approach to destroying the best health care on Earth only to reform it is based on deceptive tactics and exploitation of the American people. It must be done NOW, however not implemented until 2013. Therefore, the negative fallout will not play a role in possibly reelecting our leftist president.

*The same day that Pelosi ducked the jail question, President Obama also danced around a similar question posed by White House press staff Jake Tapper. Mr. Tapper also had to ask the question twice and met with a condescending, “I’m not sure that’s the biggest question they’re asking right now”. The audio portion of the Obama interview follows the Pelosi press conference.

Please call, email, or visit your Senator and urge them to vote NO, before its too late! Once implemented this government plan, like all other entitlement programs, is permanent and will cost at least 3x the projections, totaling over $3 Trillion…of deficit spending!
Furthermore, they talk about “subsidies” and they really mean redistribution of wealth. Karl Marx said, “To each according to his need, from each according to his ability”. The have some “moral” obligation to steal from those who are productive and distribute to those who don’t produce much if any to society. This is not government’s role, they think it’s charity, but last time I checked charity was to be given, not taken by a rule by fear government with a “mandate”. This health care “debate” is not about health or care, it’s about CONTROL.

More details at this Seattle TEA party COMMUNITY ORGANIZER’s blog:

http://redistributingknowledge.blogspot.com/

Also, this press conference was not announced publicly. And the protest against Pelosi-care was organized with only 3-hours advance notice. The speaker obviously didn’t want to draw hundreds or thousands to protest her visit.

Rev. 2 – Improved Pelosi audio, added *Obama interview.
