A women’s cooperative in Senegal is offering low-cost health insurance to women who sell produce and food at local markets. They’re known in Africa as “market women” and previously were uninsured, as are most Senegalese. Some people in the country receive coverage from large employers and few buy their own. But VOA West Africa Correspondent Scott Stearns reports most poor people, and especially those who deal in the informal, cash economy, have no coverage.

Would we really need health insurance in the future for things other than a broken leg and stuff…if there was a way we could live healthy?

I not think so.

Just a thought…I think we could or dramatically reduce the cost of health insurance in the future.

When you hear this stuff on the news, they make it sound like you need pharmaceutical drugs to live. Nothing could be further from the truth. How do you think we made it until now…without these drugs?
