“We will CURE CANCER!” : Obama | Address To Congress – ” State Of The Union ” | FEB 2009

August 29, 2010 - 5:15 pm 25 Comments

2 We will CURE CANCER! : Obama | Address To Congress State Of The Union | FEB 2009The President reveals his bold plans for better health care ! — $ $ $ — |

In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Obama told the American people that the “day of reckoning” has arrived for the nation’s economy, which he pledged to not just fix but make stronger than it was before the current crisis.

“Now is the time to act boldly and wisely — to not only revive this economy, but to build a new foundation for lasting prosperity,” the president said in his televised prime-time address.

Obama was greeted with thunderous applause in the House chamber, as lawmakers reached out to try and get a handshake or, in some cases, a kiss as the president made his way down the narrow aisle to the podium.

Obama is enjoying a 68 percent approval rating after his first month in office, according to the latest ABC News-Washington Post poll, and his pledge to reverse the nation’s economic woes earned him an early standing ovation from both Democrats and Republicans.

“While our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken; though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before,” Obama said.

Obama laid out proposals in energy, health care and education policy that he said would help everyday Americans struggling with rising costs and would be long-term investments toward economic recovery.

NC Medicaid Critical for Children with Serious Disabilities

August 29, 2010 - 4:42 pm No Comments

2 NC Medicaid Critical for Children with Serious DisabilitiesAdam Searing of the NC Justice Center’s Health Access Coalition interviews the Cooley family about NC Medicaid and how it is critical to caring for their son Joshua given his disabilities. It’s easy to talk about “cutting Medicaid,” but less easy to tell Joshua’s parents that they won’t be able to afford the enormously expensive care their son needs, despite their hard work and good insurance coverage.

Speaker Pelosi on Kids’ Health Care

August 29, 2010 - 4:41 pm 25 Comments

2 Speaker Pelosi on Kids Health CareThe House is now considering the final House-Senate agreement to reauthorize the successful Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), H.R. 976, for an additional five years. CHIP provides health coverage to American children whose parents do not qualify for Medicaid, but can not afford private insurance. This bill will bring health coverage to approximately ten million children in need — preserving coverage for all 6.6 million children currently covered by CHIP, and reaching millions more low-income, uninsured American children in the next five years. Speaker Nancy Pelosi speaks in favor of the bill, which President Bush has promised to veto.

As Unemployment Extentions Run Out, Social Serices Agencies Begin To Take Children

August 29, 2010 - 4:35 pm 25 Comments

2 As Unemployment Extentions Run Out, Social Serices Agencies Begin To Take ChildrenIn a new development regarding the ending of unemployment extensions for millions Americans, suddenly poor families with virtually no income face the loss of home, transportation and for some, even the loss of their children. In a startling development, indirectly caused by our social welfare system, families face separation or total loss of children to child protective services and/or other social service agencies. There are two ways parents are losing children according to Insider “Audrey” in California right now.

Breaking Up the Family to Receive more Benefits
Mothers are finding out and often encouraged by social service staff to leave their jobless husbands by offering them up to $800 per month in food stamps, VIP health care, free bus passes, $300 in Wic food supplements, Section 8 housing assistance, free day care and subsided higher education. It doesn’t pay to be married when you are “on the dole’. In a systematic assault upon the family, social service workers actively encourage married women to become “welfare moms”. Fathers are often left out in the cold, seeking employment wherever they can, threatened with jail by the district attorney and pressured to break the law with “under the table payments” to the wife. If he doesn’t comply, he loses all contact with the children.

Parents Forced to Give Up Children to Foster Care
In a system set up for failure, parents are encouraged and sometimes forced to give up their children
“temporarily” until they get back up on their feet financially. In a strange offer of charity, families are often willing to make space for children but unwilling to help their parents. What is left is a wholesale “hijacking” of parenthood due to current economic conditions. In some parts of Inland California, 25% of homeowners are not making payments. The banks are moving slow in the foreclosure process because they want to delay the waterfall of foreclosures to keep housing prices stable. When these banks begin a rapid pace of foreclosure we will see 25-30% of families ill prepared for an additional $1500 to $2000 expense of rent . We will see an explosion of suddenly poor families across America as these banks begin to foreclose and unfortunately a massive increase in the breakup of families.

Until he lost his job, Jim MacPherson figures, he had worked every day of his life since he was 15. Now, after 18 months of desperately seeking new work, MacPherson is among the estimated 2.1 million US workers, including 30,000 in Massachusetts, who have been without jobless benefits since Congress allowed an extension of the federal program to expire in early June.

Study Shows Millions of US Children Without Health Insurance

August 29, 2010 - 4:30 pm 1 Comment

2 Study Shows Millions of US Children Without Health InsuranceIn many parts of the world, parents have two choices — either pay the full cost of medical care for their children or hope that free treatment will be available under government programs. In the United States, much of the cost of a child’s medical care is usually absorbed by the family’s health insurance plan. But for parents, the cost of health insurance has steadily outstripped the cost of inflation in recent years. VOA’s Melinda Smith has more on the dilemma many working parents face when their child gets sick.

(UNCUT) The CNN RON CLARK ACADEMY HEALTH CARE REFORM SONG – FULL VERSION

August 29, 2010 - 4:11 pm 25 Comments

2 (UNCUT) The CNN RON CLARK ACADEMY HEALTH CARE REFORM SONG FULL VERSIONRon Clark Academy students write a song their take on health care reform to the tune of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ on CNN.

Lyrics:
Got paged in the morning at 5am
Time to go into work again.
Welcome to the world of medicine,
Whoa, here we go again.
The hospital’s packed with people in a long line
Agitated cause we’ve waited for a long time.
This is all so crazy, too many missing coverage lately

My tummy’s turning and I’m feeling kinda sickly
My hip’s bad and I feel weak
And the prices are always raising up.
Conservatives and liberals say
To reform healthcare today
But they can’t seem to find a way.

So we throw our hands up for healthcare reform
Make your choice today.
Private and public care
Will a marketplace treat us fair?

So we throw our hands up for healthcare reform
Make your choice today.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It’s a problem in the USA.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It’s a problem in the USA.

Obama says everyone needs
Health coverage in America now.
We need to insure those 47 million
But the government doesn’t know how.
Deductibles getting higher every day
I got my bill and I’m thinking NO way.
And what about my brother?
He’s hurt and can’t get covered.

My tummy’s turning and I’m feeling kinda worried
Capricious coverage is killing me.
That’s when a doctor said, “You’ll have to go.”
Bipartisan support was tried so we wouldn’t be denied
But Joe Wilson yelled, “You lie!”
