17 year old Natalie Sarkisyan was allowed to die in 2007 when CIGNA Insurance denied her multiple doctors’ repeated requests for life-saving organ transplant.

Moments after President Obama’s health care reform address to Congress, Bill O’Reilly and Karl Rove react. here, they debate Obama’s reference to him saying death panels are “a lie, plain and simple.”

In the next segment, White House senior advisor David Axelrod responds to Rove’s comments, and mentions that Sarah Palin is the one who coined the term “death panel” and then called her a hypocrite because she has backed off of the idea. O’Reilly responds by calling the death panel “a dopey idea.”

Georgia Congressman David Scott, who found a swastika painted on a sign near his office just days after a heated exchange about health care reform, appears on “American Morning” to comment that the individual responsible is “very, very dangerous.”

He also reads a letter he received – “Obama joker” letterhead and all – peppered with the N-word. Scott thinks such hate or racism has no precedence in the health care debate. “We need to explain what the public option means without the tension,” he explains, and goes to say that it’s “not a death panel” and does not cover abortions.

He also blames Rush Limbaugh for setting the tone when he wished for President Obama to “fail”.

Joe Stornaiuolo, a doorman for 15 years, loses his finger, then his job, and ultimately his health insurance. Unable to afford the medication or doctor visits he needs to manage his chronic liver disease, Joe has to be hospitalized four times in one year, running up bills in excess of $60,000. When he finally qualifies for Social Security Disability, he discovers a terrible Catch-22: his income is too great to qualify for Medicaid, and there’s a standard two-year waiting period to qualify for Medicare. Despite the unflinching support and care of his wife, Dale, Joe’s condition deteriorates, and he passes away just before Christmas. With a grandchild she now must raise alone and bills she can never hope to repay, Dale attributes Joe’s premature death to his lack of medical coverage.

Sen. Orrin Hatch and Sen. Arlen Specter discuss “death panel” talk in the health care reform debate. Hatch says that the Democrats want a “government takeover” in health care, as well as other things he finds “objectionable.” Specter calls the “death panels” a “myth”, and stressed “the government option is an option.” He also explains why he changed his mind on support of a government-run health option. “I think competition is good,” he says. Specter also calls out Hatch on his “filibuster” and challenges him to go “back to the bargaining table.”

When Nataline Sarkisyan was denied the liver transplant her doctor thought could save her life, her mother and father brought her fight to the doorsteps of CIGNA insurance. By her side was American SiCKO Donna Smith and the California Nurses Association. The media picked up on the story which quickly became a public relations nightmare for CIGNA because of the real nightmare the Sarkisyan family was living. With no other choice, CIGNA finally approved Nataline’s liver transplant but it was too late. Nataline died two hours later.

Wendell Potter was a CIGNA executive at the time. He saw the Sarkisyan’s struggle from the inside of the profit-making company and knew that CIGNA would do whatever possible to protect the bottom line. Previously, potter had attended the premiere of ‘SiCKO’ with a large group of other insurance insiders set with the task of debunking the movie. But, instead, Potter was swayed and later said, “When I saw the movie, Ill be honest: I thought it was a real good documentary. I knew from my own studies of other healthcare systems that it was an accurate portrayal of those systems and how they are able to provide universal coverage.”

Nataline Sarkisyan’s death was the last straw for Potter. He resigned from CIGNA, blew the whistle on the industry, and became an activist for health care reform.
