The $1 Trillion global IMF banker and international business scam for the European elite. Even more significant is the increased power given to the international financial institutions, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, who have been subcontracted by the G20 to monitor and run many of their policies.

IMF managing director Dominique Strauss Kahn was jubilant after the meeting, saying that the IMF “is now truly back.”

The IMF’s image had been tarnished during the Asian financial crisis and, until the current crisis came to a head, there had been fears that the organisation was losing its relevance.

Mr Strauss-Kahn was particularly enthusiastic about the plan for the IMF to issue $250bn worth of its own currency, the SDR, saying this was the first step on the IMF issuing its own liquity as well as being a lender of last resort – the two key functions of a world central bank.

The IMF will also be made more representative, with China and India getting a bigger say, and its top job opened to all comers, not just Europeans, in the future.

Health care stocks moving higher, as it looks likely the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts senate seat will be filled by Republican Scott Brown. A Republican victory would give the GOP the 41st vote it needs to stop the healthcare overhaul on it’s way through the Senate. The pending news out of New England effecting the market positively. Overall, the biggest gainers in the healthcare sector right now are Eli Lilly and Co, up about 5 percent, Humana up 4 percent. and Aetna up around 3 percent. The most active health care stocks – Phizer – with a volume around 45 million right now, above the daily average of 44 million.
United Health Group – already above it’s daily average of 17.5 million, over the 12 million daily average. and Eli Lilly – currently at 12.5 million above the daily average of close to 6 million shares traded per day.

We talked last week about a new report on preterm births the leading cause of death in newborn babies worldwide.

Each year an estimated thirteen million babies are born too soon. More than one million of them die as a result of their prematurity. Yet experts say many early births can be prevented.

The report came from the March of Dimes and the World Health Organization. Christopher Howson is the vice president for global programs at the March of Dimes, a nonprofit group. He says there are a number of simple, low-cost interventions that can improve the chances of a full-term birth.

Mister Howson said: “We should treat malnutrition in women both before and during pregnancy. We should treat infections that increase risk. We should monitor pregnancies carefully for signs of trouble. And should that baby be born preterm, we should care for that baby by providing a package of interventions that have been shown to be tried and true and very effective.”

For example, there are programs in Africa that teach the skin-to-skin method, also known as kangaroo care. Mothers learn to carry preterm babies in front instead of the traditional African way of carrying a baby on the mother’s back. Skin-to-skin helps keep a preterm baby warm and makes it easier for the baby to breastfeed.

Most preterm births take place in Africa and Asia. But rates in the United States have increased by more than one-third in the last twenty-five years.

Alan Fleischman is the medical director of the March of Dimes. He was among a group of medical experts who met in Washington, D.C., in October.

The group met to develop a plan for dealing with the problem in the United States. Doctor Fleischman says there is concern especially about rising numbers of what are known as late preterm births.

Those are the babies who are born between thirty-four and thirty-seven weeks of pregnancy. They are responsible for seventy-two percent of all premature births in America.

The rise of these births may be linked to increased use of drugs to start or speed up labor and more births by Cesarean section. Doctor Fleischman says the group strongly advises against these interventions before thirty-nine weeks unless medically necessary. The experts also say doctors need to work with pregnant women to do a better job of estimating exactly when a pregnancy began.

The online whistleblower WikiLeaks is following up its massive exposé of Afghan War secrets by posting a mysterious, encrypted file called “Insurance”. The file size is huge at 1.4Gb, about a hundred times bigger than most of the other files posted. But so far no one has been able to decrypt it. It looks as though when one posts a file like that he feels under threat in some way and, therefore, if any harm comes to WikiLeak’s chief, Julian Assange, any member of the WikiLeaks team, or possibly even the site itself, the key to the file will be published on the website of the project and it will reveal some sort of huge secret.
