(September 8, 2009, Oconee County Civic Center, Oconee County, GA)
Transcript:
Lewis: Dr Broun, can I ask you a very quick question?
Broun: Very quickly
Lewis: Well, I was raising my hand the whole time, there’s something I wanted to bring up which is the issue of the under… underinsured. I pay $200 a month for my wife and I to have health insurance and um for (clearly I meant in) the last 2 years I’ve passed 12 kidney stones. 12 kidney stones! With no medical attention because I can’t get it covered because I have catastrophic insurance with a $200 dollar deductible, *laughs* I mean a $20,000 deductible.
Lewis: So me paying $200 a month is all I can afford to pay for health insurance, so if you could tell me -? just very quickly – how your plan will make it so we can address that issue because everything you said didn’t involve the government at all being involved in trying to stop the profit based, profit motivated system.
Broun [interrupting]: We need to make… we need to make insurance affordable to you sir…
Lewis [interrupting]: Right…
Broun [interrupting]: So that you can…
Lewis: Right, right well how do we do that? How do we do that?
Broun: Well by expanding health savings accounts and that so…
Lewis [interrupting]: No, no, no, I HAD a health savings account actually and that didn’t help, because all it was was…
Broun [interrupting]: Well, well the current ones… the current ones don’t work, we’ve got…
Lewis [interrupting]: Yeah, yeah I’ve heard about THOSE, so really you don’t have an answer?!
Broun: We’re working on it… if you have any… if YOU have suggestions, send? it to me. I’d like to hear ‘em, I’d like…
Lewis [interrupting]: Really?! Would you?!
Chairman of Jackson County GOP [interrupting, grabbing my shoulder and spinning me around]: Lemme just [hands me his card] (unintelligible )
Broun [shaking hands with and completely ignoring the people trying to talk to him]: Thank you, bless you, God bless you… [confused looking at sign held by Jill Carnes that said: "will work for health care"] HUH?! What?! Well… ha I under… [unintelligible].
Gordon Lamb [cameraman]: He’s not answering… Not answeri [cuts off]
