Integrated Care: Kaiser Permanente Thrive Ad (60 Seconds)
“Integrated Care” uses a museum as a metaphor to convey Kaiser Permanente’s approach to coordinated care. The spot takes the viewer on a journey through a museum dedicated to one patient, Linda. Within the museum are several “exhibits” that showcase not only Linda’s medical history but her hobbies and lifestyle choices as well. This holistic view of Linda — which can be shared with other KP doctors and specialists through a secure, electronic database — allows a complete team of experts to participate in Linda’s total health, showing that the total picture is the best picture. By the way: the doctors in the ad are all Kaiser Permanente medical professionals.

Yes, I’m Calling Senator Mitch McConnell A Liar!

December 11, 2009
Remember when Senator Mitch McConnell stood on the Senate floor December 5, 2009 and had this and this to say about the Health Care Bill ” I’m sure there are people in Kentucky for it, I have not met one.” “There must be a doctor in Kentucky for this, I have not heard from one.”
Today Dr. Eric Johnson and Wanda Mitchell-Smith went to Senator Mitch McConnell’s office, see photos, in Louisville, Kentucky and presented his staff with a petition with the names of 1,000-plus Kentuckians. The petition, signed by more than 1,000 Kentuckians states Hey Mitch McConnell, I’m from Kentucky and I support health reform that gives us quality, affordable health care with the choice of a public health insurance option.
I asked Dr. Eric Johnson and Wanda Mitchell-Smith if I could go with them to present the petition, I wanted a photo of the petition being handed over, and they told me only two people at a time could go up to Senator Mitch McConnell’s office. I later verified this, by phone, with a lady by the name of Audrey, in the senators office. Since I wouldn’t be able to go with Dr. Eric Johnson and Wanda Mitchell-Smith, I gave my iPhone to Wanda Mitchell-Smith and asked her to shoot video of the petition transaction. The guard stopped her and said no photos or videos! See video clip below.
I simply couldn’t believe what had happened and kept asking myself is this America? How is it that the Senator’s office, in Jefferson County, Kentucky will allow just 2 people in at time. There are 713,877 people in Jefferson County, Kentucky! What kind of deal is this? Democracy? Really?
Senator Mitch McConnell lied on the senate floor December 5, 2009 when he said:
“I’m sure there are people in Kentucky for it, I have not met one.” “There must be a doctor in Kentucky for this, I have not heard from one.”
Yes I’m calling Senator Mitch McConnell a liar and I’m also requesting the United Sates Senate to reprimand him for his complete and total disregard of that great body and his constituents.
Proof of my allegations:

Franken: Pawlenty “Misrepresenting” Health Care Reform Law
Senator Al Franken knows a thing or two about the nation’s health care reform law that was passed in March. He helped write some key sections of it. So he was taken aback today by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty’s executive order restricting what the Governor calls “Obamacare” from being implemented in Minnesota. Franken noted that people thank him for getting health care reform passed. “Even members of the Pawlenty administration thank me.” said Franken at an AM950 interview at the Minnesota State Fair. “I think it’s very bad that he’s turned down this hundreds of millions of dollars. And I saw the proclamation. I think he very much misrepresents what the health care reform bill is. The fact that it brings, you know… According to the CBO (Congressional Budget Office), that’s all we can go on. It’s what Republicans and Democrats go on in the Congress, they say it will reduce the deficit. And the whole point of health care reform was to address the unsustainability of increasing health care costs. “And I’m very proud of the medical loss ration amendment that I put in, it’s now part of the law, which says that health insurance companies that have large group insurance policies have to use 85 percent of the premiums in the policies towards actual health care and use 15 percent for administrative, profits, marketing. But they have to use 85 percent for actual health care and 80 percent in small group and and individual policies. And that’s a very important cost containment thing. “This is about being on the side of people who were previously turned down for health insurance because they had a pre-existing condition. This is about people who go bankrupt because their health care, they’ve reached their caps — their annual cap or their lifelong cap. This is about security for folks. And it’s also about changing the way we do health care, we provide health care to reflect more like what we do with Mayo. “If we provided health care with an integrated approach like they do at Mayo, we’d save so much money. We actually do health care relatively, in Minnesota, very well, relative to the rest of the country. I remember having a roundtable where a health care economist in Minnesota said to me ‘in Minnesota we get an “A”, but that’s because we grade on a curve.’”
