Antony Jacob interview on NDTV on how to increase number of insured people in India…????
Antony Jacob, CEO—Apollo Munich, announced that there is 75% of people paying out medical treatment expenses from their pockets, which is perhaps the maximum in the world. As per him, every health insurance company faces the same issue that people in India are unaware of health insurance and the foremost reason is that health insurance is a unprofitable sector and the number of insured people are those who have either faced urgent needs of health insurance themselves or their family member. So, these are the individuals who are purchasing health insurance but it has resulted in high frequency and high cost. Thus, it is becoming unprofitable for health insurance.
As per Antony Jacob, the number of insured people should be a mix of both, healthy and unhealthy people to make it bigger and broader. Thus, there is much improvement to be made in this field.
Apollo Munich has entered into health insurance as a pure health insurance company and he believes that all associated bodies should play an active role in spreading awareness. Regulation should invite more players to focus on this sector, so that they can work morning and evening to encourage people to buy health insurance. It will help to design products, as per the needs of customers, thus contributing towards insurance sector. So, there is a significant role for the regulator to play in terms of formulating rules and regulation, entries and barriers for health insurance. It is to ensure that right players enter the market. Similarly, there is a role for Government to play to spread health awareness and healthcare costs so that people understand that financing through insurance is absolutely a necessity.
Mr. Antony Jacob further said that Apollo Munich has a big role to play in terms of adverting, product innovation and service offerings. Likewise, a big role is to be played by health care providers in terms of standardization of rates and processes. It is the matter of increasing 150 million, pupation to 400 million. There are many government programmes, such as RSBY and they are doing a great job. Private sector has encouraged new entries like Apollo Munich as standalone licensed player.

A health insurance company did the right thing by paying a metro man's doctor bill, but they apparently sent the money to the wrong place. You would think that'd be an easy fix,but now the debt collectors are calling the patient who's calling Consumer Watch's Amanda Taylor for help.

This is the VOA Special English Economics Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com
A major reform of the American system of health care and insurance has moved farther in Congress than ever before. President Obama wants a final bill passed by the end of the year. But a difficult road still lies ahead.
On November seventh, the House of Representatives passed a bill with an estimated trillion-dollar price over ten years. The president called the vote historic. President Obama said the Affordable Health Care for America Act will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance. It will provide quality affordable options for those who dont. And it will bring down the cost of health care for families, business and the government while strengthening the financial health of Medicare.
But thirty-nine Democrats voted no, and only one Republican, Joseph Cao of Louisiana, voted yes. The bill passed with just two more votes than required. Republicans say the plan would add to the nation’s debt, raise insurance costs and expand government involvement in health care.
Republican Representative Joe Barton from Texas said: “So, there is a choice. Bigger government, more mandates, more control, less freedom. Or lower costs, more opportunity, more freedom or more choice. I vote for more freedom.”
The bill aims to provide health coverage to thirty-six million Americans. That would raise the nation’s coverage rate to about ninety-six percent.
The most disputed part of the bill is a “public option” for individuals and small businesses. The government would compete with private plans by offering its own insurance — based on payment rates negotiated with providers.
The House bill would raise taxes on high earners to help pay for the plan. It would also cut four hundred billion dollars from health programs for the retired and poor — money that supporters of the bill say is now being wasted.
Most Americans would have to buy insurance or pay a fine; the government would help the needy. All but the smallest businesses would have to offer insurance for their workers or pay a tax. Some small businesses could receive tax credits to help with their costs. Insurance companies could not deny or cancel coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. And the industry would lose its protection from anti-competitive laws.
And that’s the VOA Special English Economics Report. You can read more about the health care debate at voaspecialenglish.com.

The “Hell No You Can’t : YES WE CAN” Videomix by Josh Stanley of original by Black Eye Peas member will.i.am (featuring John Boehner) …It Rocks..MUST SEE and share…
///
House Republican leader’s John Boehner’s final “Hell no, you can’t” angry and profane rant on Sunday (Mar. 21, 2010) against President’s Obama’s Health Care Plan is now infamous.
And his blustering outrage had nothing to do with his perpetual tan and the fact that the bill places a tax on tanning salons. No, really, it didn’t.
Here’s the latest mash-up of will.i. am’s video with Boehner’s profanity to illustrate the division between the Republican and Democratic parties. Not mention a lack of class and manners.
But his Hiel — sorry, — no does signify a frightening and depressing Republican movement to stop change and halt Obama’s reforms, recommendations and appointees.
“No” Republicans have voted for health care reform or for financial reform in the Senate banking committee.
Who are you for? The Hell-No-It-Alls or the Yes-We-Can-Dos?
///
Marie BurnsFort Myers, Florida wrote on March 25th, 2010
What I think this all means is that everybody loves a winner. Everybody but Republicans, that is. In the viral video of the day, some wonderful videographer named Josh Stanley has repurposed the Obama “Yes We Can” song by splicing in the musical contribution of House Minority Leader John Boehner yelling at the top of his lungs, presumably on the House floor, “Hell no you can’t!” causing a poetic commenter to swoon, “Oh Internet. How I love your series of tubes.” Another commented that only Boehner is off-key. Yes He Is. The video captures the essence of this moment: democracy ascendant, Republicans raging out of control.
Even among all the horrible violence & death threats against Members of Congress who did the right thing for the American people, there is one glimmer of light: the Secret Service reports that threats against President Obama are down to the levels of threats to former Presidents.
And in another sign of reversal of fortunes, the Democratic National Committee has co-opted one of the tea-partiers’ favorite signs, “Hands Off My Health Care.” Yep, they’re warning that Republicans want to take health insurance away from your kids & drop seniors back into the donut hole. May the next mob be made up of Democratic activists locking arms & singing “Yes We Did” with will.i.am & John Legend.
Health reform is here to stay. It’s a winner.

This is the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com
President Obama has signed legislation to make the biggest changes in the health care system
in forty-five years. The president said: “Today, after almost a century of trying; today, after over a year of debate; today, after all the votes have been tallied, health insurance reform becomes law in the United States of America.
Many parts of the plan will fully take effect in four years. But some take effect quickly. For example,
in six months the new law will bar insurance companies from denying coverage to children with
pre-existing health conditions. Adults with pre-existing conditions will be added in four years.
The government will help millions of people pay for insurance. It will also permit millions more to receive free coverage through the Medicaid program for the poor. In all, the plan aims to make health insurance available to thirty-two million people now without it. People will be able to buy private policies through marketplaces called exchanges to be administered by
the states. Illegal immigrants
will not be able to take part.
An estimated eighty-three percent of people under age sixty-five who are in the United States legally now have insurance coverage. The plan
is expected to raise that to
ninety-five percent within
several years. People over
sixty-five are covered by the Medicare insurance program which
the government created in nineteen sixty-five. For the first time, Americans will be required to have health insurance or face a yearly fine starting in four years. The law will also require companies with more than fifty employees to
offer coverage. If not, they could face a fine of two thousand dollars a year for every worker. Also, this year the law will start closing what is known as “the doughnut hole.” That is a lack of Medicare
coverage for some drug costs for older Americans. President Obama promised senior citizens that the reforms will not cut their guaranteed benefits. The
Senate quickly made a last set of legislative fixes needed in the
new law. However, some states have already gone to court to fight the new health care reform law. The health care plan is expected to cost about nine hundred forty billion dollars over ten years. But it is also expected to help reduce the federal budget deficit.
