At this July 15 briefing on the Hill, the Galen Institute presented “Why the Obama Health Plan is Not Entitlement Reform,” a paper by Jim Capretta, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and an adjunct scholar at the Galen Institute.
In this video, Grace-Marie Turner of the Galen Institute and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) give introductory remarks, and Jim Capretta presents his paper. Following the presentation, Douglas Holtz-Eakin of the American Action Forum, and Eugene Steuerle of the Urban Insitute join Jim Capretta and Rep. Paul Ryan to discuss the paper and alternative health policy reforms.

Speaking at the White House’s health care summit today, Sen. Dick Durbin asked his Congressional colleagues to step back and take a moment to think about those less fortunate. “Shouldn’t our health insurance but good enough for the rest of America. Why do we continue to discriminate against people when we know that each one of us is only one accident or one diagnosis away from being one of those unfortunate few who can’t afford or can’t find health insurance,” said Durbin.

As the U.S. Senate began debating its health insurance reform bill today, Nevada Senator Harry Reid discussed how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will benefit Nevadas senior citizens. This bill will lower premiums for Nevada’s 328,000 Medicare beneficiaries through a number of key reforms, including the reduction of Medicare’s overpayments to private plans and by cutting in half the brand-name drug costs for 58,200 Nevada seniors in the Medicare Part D donut hole. “This is a very good bill — it saves lives, saves money and saves Medicare,” said Reid.

Just qualified for the Death Panel today….Signed up for Medicare. My insurance premium DOUBLED in one year since I made “Sucko on Social Secutiy” No 65 year old person should have to make this choice between paying rent and an insurance premium when the CEO of my insurance company makes $24 million a year!
