2 Why the Obama Health Plan is Not Entitlement ReformAt this July 15 briefing on the Hill, the Galen Institute presented “Why the Obama Health Plan is Not Entitlement Reform,” a paper by Jim Capretta, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and an adjunct scholar at the Galen Institute.

In this video, Grace-Marie Turner of the Galen Institute and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) give introductory remarks, and Jim Capretta presents his paper. Following the presentation, Douglas Holtz-Eakin of the American Action Forum, and Eugene Steuerle of the Urban Insitute join Jim Capretta and Rep. Paul Ryan to discuss the paper and alternative health policy reforms.

2 Reid Discusses Benefits for Nevada Seniors in Health BillAs the U.S. Senate began debating its health insurance reform bill today, Nevada Senator Harry Reid discussed how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will benefit Nevadas senior citizens. This bill will lower premiums for Nevada’s 328,000 Medicare beneficiaries through a number of key reforms, including the reduction of Medicare’s overpayments to private plans and by cutting in half the brand-name drug costs for 58,200 Nevada seniors in the Medicare Part D donut hole. “This is a very good bill — it saves lives, saves money and saves Medicare,” said Reid.
