Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says to John King of the proposed health care reform bill: “The vast majority of our members think [it] is a bad idea.”
He adds, “The only thing bipartisan about the measures is the opposition.” And that Democrats “can’t sell [the bill] to their own members.”
King then plays a tape of McConnell saying as Obama was waiting in the wings to enter office: “We fully expect to be a full partner in developing major health care reform.”
Oh, that gotcha journalism!
Also, repeating some of the same talking points in the same interview probably doesn’t help your case, either.
Representative Alan Grayson (D-FL) ventures into a hostile Tea Bag Rally and talks to Lydia – a well informed critic of the Health Care Overhaul. They debate the plan in some detail. This is one of the few recorded instances of civil discourse during the entire Health Care Debate available on YouTube
RNC chairman Michael Steele tells Chris Matthews that he defends calling President Obama’s health care plan socialism at the National Press Club as evidenced by his, “Yes, next question” remark.
“This plan is not in the best interest of this nation,” Steele says.
At a speech on July 20, President Obama responded to Sen. Jim DeMint saying his healthcare plan will be his “waterloo” and “break him” if defeated.
“This isn’t about me,” Obama said. “This isn’t about politics… This is about a healthcare system that is breaking America’s families…. businesses and… economy.”
On 9.12.2009, we went to Washington DC to document the Tea Party protests against, well, a lot of things, including health insurance reform, the IRS, abortion, global warming, and our “socialist/communist/fascist/Nazi/Muslim” president, Barack Obama. Some of them called for a return to McCarthyism, while others called for Glenn Beck to run for office–indeed, it seemed the only thing that everyone agreed on was Fox News.

A NOTE ON CZARS:
Some users have pointed out that White House “Czars” existed long before Ronald Reagan. As it turns out, Donald Nelson, appointed under FDR as a “Wartime Production Czar”, was the first. The Republican Gov. of Colorado, John A. Love, was later appointed under Nixon as an “Energy Czar”. We appreciate this correction, though such an oversight does not dilute our point. The current outcry against Czars is merely alarmist propaganda perpetuated by Glenn Beck and the rest of the right-wing media.
JOIN OUR HEALTH CARE FOR AMERICA NOW! FACEBOOK GROUP:
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
You can make a difference in the health care debate without leaving your bedroom. So stop typing that narcissistic Facebook status, pause your Mafia Wars game, and actually do something in reality to advance the cause you support on Facebook by calling your representative. This is so easy. Many people are timid about making phone calls, but a phone call to your representative now could save you a series of phone calls to an uncooperative insurance company in the future. Too lazy to look up your representative’s number? This website makes it even easier–it will find the number, call it for you, and then call your cell phone to connect you. Tell your representative’s office that you support comprehensive health care reform, and urge them to support the public option.

“We can do this. At this point, all that stands in the way of universal health care in America are the greed of the medical-industrial complex, the lies of the right-wing propaganda machine, and the gullibility of voters who believe those lies.”
– Paul Krugman, The Swiss Menace

For over seven decades Universal Healthcare has been proposed by liberals and they are at it again. Yet fifty years ago Ronald Reagan, Reagan warned us about socialized medicine and fifty years later liberals are still attempting to take the same approach that history has shown to have failed. Listen to President Reagan’s words from 1960 and see just how applicable they still are in 2009.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tells John King that despite in-fighting in her own party over a proposed health care reform bill: “We believe we have a good bill… When I take this bill to the floor, it will win.”
