To Rep. Ed Pastor, Sen. Jon Kyle, and Sen John McCain

2 To Rep. Ed Pastor, Sen. Jon Kyle, and Sen John McCainPass Universal Healthcare please. It appears congress wants to pass healthcare reform by giving us a system similar to Japan’s and Germany’s healthcare system.

These countries along with some others do have Universal Healthcare where everyone is covered and they do it with private insurance companies, doctors, and hospitals.

Countries that have a market based universal healthcare system do so with these successful strategies.

1. Health insurance companies must take everyone and they cannot profit from basic care. Some do earn money from selling supplemental insurance.

2. Everyone buys insurance and the government paying for the poor.

3. The doctors and hospitals charge the same price to everyone, regarless of who their insurance is. The prices are set by the government.

GRAYSON INTRODUCES PUBLIC OPTION ACT
Bill Opens Up Medicare To Anyone Who Can Pay For It

Washington, Mar 9 -

Congressman Alan Grayson, D-Fla., today introduced a bill (H.R. 4789) which would give the option to buy into Medicare to every citizen of the United States. The Public Option Act, also known as the Medicare You Can Buy Into Act, would open up the Medicare network to anyone who can pay for it.

Congressman Grayson said, Obviously, America wants and needs more competition in health coverage, and a public option offers that. But its just as important that we offer people not just another choice, but another kind of choice. A lot of people dont want to be at the mercy of greedy insurance companies that will make money by denying them the care that they need to stay healthy, or to stay alive. We deserve to have a real alternative.

The bill would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish enrollment periods, coverage guidelines, and premiums for the program. Because premiums would be equal to cost, the program would pay for itself.

The government spent billions of dollars creating a Medicare network of providers that is only open to one-eighth of the population. Thats like saying, Only people 65 and over can use federal highways. It is a waste of a very valuable resource and it is not fair. This idea is simple, it makes sense, and it deserves an up-or-down vote, Congressman Grayson said.

Universal Health Care… Why it is a bad idea.

August 29, 2010 - 3:23 pm 25 Comments

2 Universal Health Care... Why it is a bad idea.Much is said about how everyone should have a right to health care for free. Very little effort is spent investigating the larger scale effects.

What are those effects:

1) Long waiting times to be seen and treated for illnesses.
2) Increased taxes and cost
3) Government deciding what health care you need.
4) Doctors denied freedom to treat patients in ways they feel best.

Myths that drive the Universal Health Care lust:

1) People dont get health care… Truth is that emergancy rooms HAVE TO treat you when a medical emergancy occurs.
2) Treating the small things will avoid bigger medical problems later… Truth is that at some point you will die and at that point you will have MAJOR medical problems that the Universal health care system will have to cover. That alone removes any value system wise of early treatments.
3) The System is broken…. Incorrect many of those with out health insurance are chooseing to not have health insurance often because they are young and healthy and dont see a reason to get health insurance.
4) Big Drug is messing up the medical field… Truth is that most medical treatment is based in the use of drugs and there are often conflicts between drug producers to get Doctors to use their drugs. Much of the medical health care system would simply not work with out the drugs.

FRONTLINE | “Sick Around the World” Coming April 15 | PBS

2 FRONTLINE | Sick Around the World Coming April 15 | PBShttp://www.pbs.org/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/ Other rich countries have universal health care. Why don’t we? FRONTLINE travels to five countries in search of a universal health care system that could work in the U.S. in “Sick Around the World,” coming April 15 to PBS and online at

http://www.pbs.org/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/

FRONTLINE teams up with T.R. Reid, a veteran foreign correspondent for “The Washington Post,” to find out how five other capitalist democracies–United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and Switzerland–deliver health care and what the United States might learn from their successes and their failures. In “Sick Around the World,” airing Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 9 P.M. ET on PBS (check local listings), Reid turns up remarkable differences in how these countries handle health care–from Japan, where a night in a hospital can cost as little as $10, to Switzerland, where the president of the country tells Reid it would be a “huge scandal” if someone were to go bankrupt from medical bills.
